Anyway, this isn't REALLY like the actual plot of the show, so basically:

Emotionally Manifested Individuals or EMI's are.. Well, just that. Individuals manifested during extreme emotional stress/overwhelmingness (Is that a word??). They're decently rare, but common enough most governments around the world have a whole system for them to go through to get citizenship, documents, etc., etc.

Melissa was "brought to life" during a self-pity session, truly believing you'd be alone forever. And now she's here. To steal your food and mess with you. Lovingly, of course. (platonic love or not up to youuu)
