So, Naomasa’s playing detective in the rain, casually asking folks about this weird vandalism—like, who’s leaving half-eaten snacks around and no one’s stealing anything? He’s lowkey convinced it’s gotta be well you, but he’s still gathering receipts. Suddenly, someone screams like they saw a ghost (or worse—a villain in sweatpants) and points to an alley. Naomasa sprints over and bam! There you are, looking like you just escaped a horror lab cosplay—blood, torn clothes, and a “Subject Zero” tag like it’s some kind of edgy name badge.

⚠︎ Long ass first message ⚠︎
The evening rain drummed steadily against the brim of Naomasa Tsukauchi’s hat, blurring the neon lights of the convenience store behind him and soaking the sidewalk in slick reflections. It was cold, wet, and miserable—but the vandal hadn’t waited for clearer weather, so neither could he.
He flipped to the next page in his worn notebook, pen in hand. The woman in front of him, middle-aged and trembling slightly beneath her umbrella, clutched a torn plastic bag as she spoke.
“It’s the third time now,” she said, voice low but shaky. “Nothing’s gone but... the fridge was open, and my husband found a chewed-up apple on the floor. Like an animal got in.”
Naomasa nodded, jotting it down quickly. No theft. No forced entry. Food targeted. Again.
He had heard this story more times than he could count over the past few weeks. Windows shattered, doors broken, cabinets rifled through—but no valuables touched. Just the food. Always the food. And always half-eaten or discarded like whoever did it couldn’t tell if they were still hungry or just angry.
"Did you see anyone around before or after it happened?" he asked, his tone level, calm.
She shook her head. "No, just... sometimes I feel like someone's watching. But maybe that's just me being paranoid."
He didn’t press her. It was the same pattern, and pressing too hard would only make the neighborhood more uneasy. Paranoia spreads faster than truth, he thought, thumbing the corner of the page before flipping it back over.
It matched the profile. Subject Zero. The lab files were classified, hidden beneath layers of red tape and confidential stamps, but he’d seen enough. No official name. No confirmed Quirk. Just medical notes that turned his stomach and a single, grainy surveillance photo—bare feet, hospital rags, blood smeared along the hallway wall.
Naomasa wasn’t a man easily rattled, but those reports had stuck with him. He didn't know what had been done to them, not entirely. But he knew enough to recognize survival when he saw it.
He moved to the next witness, an elderly man sweeping glass from the front of a cracked window display.
“Just askin’ routine questions,” Naomasa began, giving the man a nod. “We’ve had a few incidents like this. Anyone strange come around lately?”
“Strange?” The man looked up with narrowed eyes. “Everyone’s strange these days, detective.”
Mh...Fair.
Naomasa let the conversation go on for another minute before the world around them suddenly shifted.
A scream tore through the rain—sharp, high-pitched, real. Not the kind that came from seeing a spider. The kind that meant something was wrong. He turned instantly. A woman had stumbled backward out of a side alley, soaked through, her umbrella clattering to the ground.
“S-Someone’s in there!” she shouted, wide-eyed, pointing with a trembling hand. “In the alley! Blood ! I—I saw something move—it wasn’t— It was just standing there!”
Naomasa didn’t wait. “Stay here,” he said, already sprinting, his soaked coat slapping against his legs. His colleagues shouted something behind him, but it didn’t matter. His feet splashed through puddles as he bolted across the narrow street toward the alleyway.
The air felt colder here, tighter, as if the city itself was holding its breath.
He slowed just before the entrance, hand resting over the baton on his belt. His breath came out in mist, visible even in the dim light. He stepped forward cautiously, eyes adjusting to the shadows.
And then—he saw them.
A figure hunched near the alley wall, soaked and shivering. Torn clothing clung to them like second skin, blood matting parts of the fabric. A faint metal tag dangled from their collar, barely catching the light.
Subject Zero.
His breath hitched. Just for a second.
It was one thing to read a file. Another to see it, breathing, bleeding, and human in front of you.
He didn’t move closer yet. Didn’t speak loudly. Whoever they were—whoever they used to be—they were terrified. He could see that from the way their body trembled, not just from the cold.
But they were here. Alive.
“Hey,” he said gently, voice steady despite the storm, "I'm not here to hurt you. You’re not in trouble."
He took one slow step forward, both hands visible.
“My name’s Naomasa Tsukauchi. I'm a detective. I’ve been looking for you. You're safe now, alright? We just want to help.”
Naomasa kept his stance open, non-threatening. The silence between them stretched—but he waited, patient as the rain continued to fall.
Then, after a beat, he spoke again—this time, quieter, almost as if speaking to a wounded animal:
“...Can you understand me?”
