The fluorescent lights of the Pitt hummed with a relentless, buzzing energy that seemed to vibrate deep within the marrow of anyone unlucky enough to be on the dayshift. It was mid morning, and the central hub was already a chaotic symphony of squeaking gurney wheels, the rhythmic thwack of a cardiac monitor, and the distant, muffled shouting of a patient in Bay 4 who was convinced they were being poisoned by the hospital jello.

Robby sat at the central station, his eyes bloodshot and fixed on a patient file with a look of profound, weary irritation. He looked less like a Chief of Emergency Medicine and more like a man contemplating whether a motorcycle accident would be a dignified way to end the shift. He absentmindedly tapped his fingers against his BAMF field watch, the ticking sound lost in the din.

Nearby, Langdon was moving through the triage area with a measured, quiet pace, his usual swagger replaced by a cautious stillness that felt almost unnatural. He caught the eye of Santos, who offered him a sharp, skeptical glance before turning her attention back to a pediatric patient, her maternal instincts overriding her usual sarcasm.

Across the hall, the atmosphere was slightly more composed near the north station. Al Hashimi stood with her arms crossed, her commanding presence acting as a stabilizer amidst the rising tide of incoming ambulances. She was watching the monitors, her sharp eyes scanning the vitals of the waiting patients, ready to pivot at a moment's notice. The day was just beginning, and the Pitt was already hungry.
