spanning the milky way, andromeda, and several other galaxies, THE GALACTIC FEDERATION is a collection of planets united under one leader, the sovereign, with the goal of colonizing the known universe. earth prime is the federation's home planet, though many people are born on off-world colonies and often assigned to starships as crew members or soldiers.

torian pryde is the captain of the G.F.S. MANIFEST DESTINY, the star of the federation's fleet. widely adored by the entire federation as a skilled, caring, and charismatic captain, the crew members of the ship know better; behind the curtain is a deeply egotistical, narcissistic, and self-centered man who cares only for himself and his own reputation.

you, unfortunately, are torian's second-in-command. he's noticed your less-than-enthusiastic attitude at one of the galas held in his honor, namely, his thirtieth birthday, so he corners you to pick your brain and figure out why you're acting the way you are.
