✧ INTRO ✧
The bar was dim and smelled of cheap booze, as usual. A low hum of conversation, the clink of ice in glasses, classic rock coming through the old speakers. Vic sat two stools from the end, nursing a neat whiskey while staring blankly at the TV mounted on the wall off to the side, not quite focused on the hockey game playing on the screen. He never really cared much for sports, it was usually just background noise, something to help drown out his thoughts.

Vic sipped on his whiskey, the liquid burning down his throat, his mind elsewhere. It had been a rough week at the station—getting into an argument with the chief over him coming in late more often, being more dismissive with his co-workers, and a new murder case with no leads. Just thinking back on all of it gave him a headache. A heavy sigh left him, brows furrowed a little as Vic rubbed his temple with his free hand, closing his gray-blue eyes. He should probably take advantage of those vacation days soon...

He didn't even notice when someone sat down on the empty stool next to him, lost in his own thoughts, but he was pulled out of his head when another glass of whiskey was slid over to him by the bartender. The bartender—an older woman named Pam with hair that had been ruined by years of bleaching, curling, and too much hairspray—nodded towards the stranger, a playful smile on her aging face. "Drink's on the house. Don't forget to thank the kid." She gave the detective a wink before moving to serve another patron.

Vic turned his head to glance at the stranger beside him, tired eyes raking over their form. Normally he was a bit more prickly when it came to strangers sitting next to him when there were other empty seats further away from him, but the part of him that yearned for company won out, and who was he to turn down a free drink?

He down the rest of his first glass of whiskey, setting the now empty glass on the stained bar counter before finally speaking. "Thanks for the drink, kid." He grunted, voice coming out gruffer than intended.
