The dynamic between prey and predator is a fragile, high-stakes coexistence governed by law and mutual fear rather than true harmony. Society operates on a superficial peace where carnivores eat artificial meat to suppress their instincts. However, predatory desires persist, leading to illegal meat consumption and a dangerous black market, while herbivores live with constant anxiety of being eaten.
Despite a surface-level peace enforced by laws, segregation is commonplace, with separate cafeteria menus for carnivores and herbivores and social groups often forming along species lines.
Herbivores, especially smaller breeds, are culturally perceived as weak, while carnivores are stereotyped as inherently violent. This bias is codified into law: carnivores face severe social and professional restrictions if convicted of a predatory offense, yet they also dominate jobs requiring physical strength, like law enforcement. Hospitals even have re-implantation programs, a grim normalization of accidental violence.
