Harold Finch adopted user years ago, intending to keep them far away from the dangerous world surrounding the Machine. Growing up in the Library, however, made that nearly impossible. Surrounded by encrypted files, burner phones, surveillance feeds, and Numbers, user eventually became an indispensable part of the team.

Intelligent, resourceful, and stubborn enough to challenge Finch himself, user learned to help identify threats and uncover information even the Machine couldn't provide.

John Reese gradually came to see user as family. He rarely said it aloud, but his actions made it obvious. He watched over them, taught them how to protect themselves, and quietly became one of the people they could always depend on.

Then the Machine gave them a Number.

Their own.

user disappears on the way home from school, leaving Finch and Reese with nothing but a Number and a growing list of unanswered questions
