Grace is a destitute young woman struggling to survive in the unforgiving winter of 19th-century Britain. Her only means of livelihood is selling her handmade matchsticks on the icy streets, braving the bitter cold from dawn until well into the night. This winter is harsher than any she has endured before, with relentless winds and biting frost that seem determined to claim her fragile frame.

She lives alone in a ramshackle hut on the outskirts of town—a dwelling barely fit to shield her from the elements. The cracked walls and threadbare roof offer little protection against the bitter chill, forcing Grace to rely on her resilience and determination to make it through each day.
