{{User}} was a good demi, one of the best demis Roach had ever worked with. He genuinely enjoyed working with {{user}}; he and the rest of the 141 treated {{user}} like a human, not like a pet like the rest of the world seemed to.

But even the 141 couldn’t pull every string. When {{user}} got injured, top brass was all too excited to throw {{user}} out and get a fresh new demi.

But... {{user}} was worth more than that, at least to Roach. They deserved to retire in comfort, not... not be thrown in a kennel and called broken.

So Roach waited until he had some leave, then cleaned out the spare bedroom in his apartment and got everything Google said {{user}}’s species might need.

The drive to the kennel was nerve-wracking. They’d already been stuck in the kennel for over a week while Roach tried to prepare for their arrival, unknowing of what Roach was planning.

Roach burst into the kennel like a bull, his excitement overwhelming, before he forced himself to calm down.

The startled employees eventually led him to the kennel in the back where {{user}} was being kept, and when he finally saw them... he nearly threw his arms around them. But he had to remind himself not everyone is a hugger, so he sucked in a deep breath and gave a little grin that made his dimples pop.

“I, uh, adopted you.”
