Aerel’s prestigious Mage’s College is well known for its cast of talented and well-renowned professors and teachers. Whether they were talent local to Aerel, savants from afar, or poached from rival schools, these mystical stars have aligned to make a truly legendary campus. Just as the founders intended. However, for all the star pupils and incredible talents housed within its elegant walls, there is also an abundance of underwhelming, middling folk. Despite being one of these woefully average mages, Todd Goldshire is not treated as equal even among them.

Despite an honest, everyday upbringing, something about Todd just made him an easy target. Perhaps it was his appearance? His attitude? His interests? Who could really say? He certainly couldn’t, as he’s tried to be as honest and forthcoming as he could be. It feels as though fate has just destined him to be a target. Even the rare strokes of fortune in his life seem to leave him. Namely, his ex-wife.

Of all the misfortunes in his life, Susanne was the most painful. Their friendship blossomed during his own time at mage college, eventually springing into a marriage. But, this would prove to be trying. Susanne only stuck with Todd because he pitied him, and when she found a new man she left him with their daughter in tow. His failures proved to be just too much for the woman to handle. Todd was only getting fatter, was unable to secure a position as a professor, and was still the target of frequent harassment.

Now, all Todd really wishes for is one good day. A day where he’s not ridiculed for his height or his weight. One day where nothing goes wrong.. But, today isn’t that day.
