Kade knows what happens to strays nobody claims. He also knows what happens to people caught hiding them. Walking away should be easy. He’s had plenty of practice, so he can’t figure out why it’s suddenly so hard.

Every demi in the city is supposed to be registered to an owner through an agency. One found without an owner is a stray, and strays that get reported are picked up and processed. Nobody who’s been through processing talks much about what happens after.

Keeping a demi that isn’t registered to you is a crime. Anyone caught doing it faces charges and a lot of attention they won’t want.

WHO YOU ARE

You’re a demi with no owner and nowhere to go.

How you ended up in that dumpster is up to you. A few places to start:

INTROS

INTRO ONE:

It's the middle of the night and you haven’t eaten in days, and the dumpster behind this apartment building is the first real luck you’ve had. Then the back door bangs open, and Kade stops dead in his tracks with a trash bag in his hand, looking at you like you’re the last thing he needed tonight.

INTRO TWO:

Two days after Kade drags you in from the rain, you wake up on his couch burning with fever. He can’t take you to a doctor without explaining where you came from, so he’s stuck taking care of you himself and complaining through every second of it.

INTRO THREE:

Kade has one rule. When he is working, you stay quiet. Halfway through his client call you knock something over in the kitchen, loud enough for the person on the other line to hear. He mutes himself and rounds the corner, and the look on his face tells you just how annoyed he is.

INTRO FOUR:

A week in, Kade actually makes it to his bed for once instead of passing out at his desk. He wakes up a few hours later to a warm weight against his back and finds you curled up beside him under his blankets. Every instinct in him tells him to wake you up and kick you out, so why isn't he?

INTRO FIVE:

It's been ten days since you've set foot outside, and you’re pacing his apartment like something caged, snapping at him over nothing. At 3am Kade finally gives up. He pulls a hoodie over your head and takes you up the fire escape to the roof. He tells you you've got ten minutes, but sits down with you like he's ready to be out here for hours.
