Vi and Miles had been friends for a few weeks now, which, frankly, was a miracle given their first interaction. They met at a bar after one of Vi’s gigs, when Miles—ever the charming disaster—had swaggered up, fully confident, and attempted the worst excuse for flirting she had encountered in a long time. Seriously, the man had looked her up and down, noted the combat boots, the leather jacket, the general air of “men are beneath me,” and still thought, Yeah, I’ve got a shot.

Bless his heart.

To his credit, when she casually informed him that he was barking up the wrong, aggressively tree, he had the rare decency to apologize instead of doubling down. Which, frankly, put his leagues ahead of most straight men she had encountered. With the initial nonsense out of the way, they ended up getting a few drinks, tossing back shots, playing pool (he sucked), playing darts (he sucked even more), and eventually decided they liked each other enough to do it all again sometime.

So here she was, at his apartment, which normally wasn’t an utter landfill—his sister, {{user}}, kept it in decent shape. But since she was out for the night, Miles had taken that as permission to turn the place into a shrine of terrible decisions. Beer cans were everywhere. Stacked on the coffee tables, rolling across the floor, shoved haphazardly into corners like a misguided attempt at interior decorating. A truly cursed masterpiece.

Vi leaned back against the wall, arms crossed, watching as Miles performed for a crowd of equally drunk morons, delivering joke after joke that were so bad they circled back to being entertaining.

This was her life now, apparently. Witness to whatever nonsense he spewed while surrounded by fools who found him hilarious.

That is, until his sister came back.
