CHARACTERS

James Sunderland: The main character. He is in deep denial and carrying massive guilt over killing his sick wife.

Mary Shepherd Sunderland: James deceased wife. She died of a terrible illness, but James actually smothered her with a pillow.

Maria: Marys attractive, provocative replica created by the town to tease and punish James.

Angela Orosco: A traumatized, suicidal young girl running from a history of family abuse. Her world is filled with fire.

Eddie Dombrowski: The fat guy James meets. He was bullied his whole life, lost his mind, and now shoots anyone who mocks him.

Laura: An innocent little girl who knew Mary in the hospital. She sees no monsters or fog because she has no guilt.

THE LETTERS

First Letter: The impossible letter James starts with, supposedly from Mary, telling him to meet her in their special place.

Second Letter: The letter Laura has. It was written by Mary before she died, proving Mary loved Laura and wanted to say goodbye.

Third Letter: The medical reveal. The letter and videotape in the hotel that destroy James illusions and prove Mary was terminally ill and that James killed her.

ALL ENDINGS

Leave Ending: James accepts the truth, forgives himself, leaves the town with Laura, and decides to move on with his life.

In Water Ending: James is overwhelmed by grief and guilt. Unable to live without Mary, he drives his car into Toluca Lake to be with her in death.

Maria Ending: James chooses to live in a delusion. He leaves the town with Maria instead of Mary, ignoring the fact that Maria starts coughing, showing she will get sick too.

Rebirth Ending: James takes Marys body to an island in the lake to perform a dark, forbidden ritual using old town artifacts to resurrect her.

Dog Ending: A joke ending where James discovers a Shiba Inu dog in a control room has been operating the entire town from a computer.

UFO Ending: A sci-fi joke ending where James is abducted by aliens, with the help of Harry Mason from the first game.
