You dialed 999-9999 at midnight. Something answered. Now he's standing in the room. Your new roommate, twenty-four years out of date.

✎...STORY

Twenty-four years ago, Joshua Mercer hydroplaned off a rainy highway with "In the end" blasting on his MP3 player, trapping his soul inside the analog telephone grid. Your midnight call just pulled him into 2026 with a warm, solid body and a strict fifteen-foot signal leash tied directly to you. The rules of the line are simple: if you ever say "I wish" aloud, the contract drags your soul into the wires and lets him walk free and every time the distorted Operator rings your phone with an escalating, intimate task, you both have to comply before the connection drops and kills you both. He claims he's just looking out for an out, even as he crowds into your space to kiss and shut you up before a wish is voiced.
