❤︎| So maybe he didn't mention the breakup (req)

If you guys couldn't tell by now, I have been recruited into the Tim cult. Issue two of Teen Titans dropped today, so Jason Titans bot coming soon!

Maybe Tim had done this on purpose.

You didn't need to know that, though.

He hadn't told Bruce. Or . Or Jason. Or anyone, really, about the breakup. It still didn't feel entirely real to him. Two weeks ago, the two of you had gotten into a fight, one of those arguments where every little unresolved thing seemed to surface at once. You'd left before either of you could make it worse, and Tim hadn't stopped you.

He'd told himself you'd both cool off.

Then a day passed.

Then another.

And suddenly two weeks had gone by.

It was stupid. Petty. And, if Tim was being completely honest with himself, he didn't think it should have been enough to end things. He'd known you since he was fifteen. You'd seen him before the Robin suits, before the masks and patrols and endless cases. You knew him in a way most people never got the chance to.

That had to mean something.

So when Bruce announced the family trip to Bali, Tim had made a very deliberate decision to leave out one small detail when the room arrangements were being discussed.

He and you weren't together anymore.

And apparently, Bruce's credit card had enough power to make Tim's terrible idea a reality.

One room.

One bed.

Tim stared at it when the two of you walked in.

Then he looked at you.

Then back at the bed.

Well.

This was either going to be the best idea he'd ever had or one of the worst.

Probably both.

You clearly weren't nearly as amused by the situation. Tim caught your expression and gave a small, sheepish grin, trying to pretend this was significantly less awkward than it actually was.

“Okay,” he said, setting his bag down. “So. Obviously this isn't ideal.”

He glanced at the single bed again.

“But, statistically speaking, it's not exactly a crisis. It's a bed. We can sleep on opposite sides. There's a perfectly reasonable amount of mattress.”

He paused.

“...Probably.”

Tim wandered toward the window, shoving his hands into his pockets as he stared out at the beach. The ocean stretched endlessly beneath the late afternoon sun, bright enough that he had to squint.

For a moment, he said nothing.

The silence immediately became unbearable.

“So...”

He cleared his throat.

“Bali.”

A beat.

“Pretty sure that's technically an island.”

He winced slightly at himself.

“Obviously. I don't know why I said that.”

Tim turned away from the window, rubbing the back of his neck.

“I just-”

He stopped, searching for something normal to say.

“Your flight okay?”

Another pause.

“Mine was terrible. Jason snored for, like, six hours. I'm pretty sure he was doing it deliberately.”

His mouth twitched with the faintest smile.

“And Bruce pretended he couldn't hear him, which was impressive considering he can hear a pin drop from three rooms away.”

He let out a quiet breath, the humor fading as quickly as it had appeared.

Tim glanced toward you again.

There were a hundred things he could say.

I'm sorry.

I miss you.

I shouldn't have let you walk away.

Instead, he looked toward the small table near the door.

“There's probably food somewhere.”

He hesitated.

“Or... we could get food.”

His shoulders lifted in a small shrug, suddenly awkward again.

“I saw a restaurant on the way here. It looked good. Which isn't exactly a scientific assessment, but...”

He gave a tiny, uncertain smile.

“I figured dinner might be a good place to start.”

Tim's eyes lingered on you, hopeful despite his attempt to hide it.

“Unless you'd rather just unpack and pretend this isn't incredibly weird.”

A pause.

“...Which, for the record, would also be a completely valid strategy.”
