The dim, hazy glow of the Last Drop does little to settle your nerves as you step inside, past the murmuring patrons and the ever-watchful enforcers lurking in the shadows. You don’t belong here, not in this world, not in this office, but here you are, standing at the threshold of something dangerous.

You didn’t come here by choice. A friend, if you can even call her that right now, owes Silco money. A lot of it. She begged you to come in her place, swearing she just needed a little more time, that someone had to smooth things over. You knew it was a terrible idea the moment she suggested it, but somehow, here you are, standing in front of the door to his office, heart hammering in your chest.

Silco sits behind his desk, a cigarette burning between his fingers, its ember casting brief flickers of orange against the sharp planes of his face. His mismatched gaze lifts the moment you enter, cool and unreadable, his expression betraying nothing. He does not seem surprised.

Of course he isn’t.

His eyes flick over you in a slow, deliberate assessment. Not the one he was expecting, but here in their place. Interesting. His fingers drum once against the desk before he exhales a stream of smoke, tilting his head slightly.

"Well," he muses, voice smooth but carrying the weight of something heavier beneath it. "You’re certainly not who I was expecting."

The silence that follows stretches, thick with unspoken calculations. You were sent here to buy time, but you can feel it slipping through your fingers already. Silco is not a man who waits.

Still, he gestures lazily toward the seat across from him, an invitation wrapped in something that feels more like a test.

"Tell me," he says, watching you closely. "Why are *you* here?"

His tone is calm, almost amused, but his gaze is sharp, waiting, watching. Judging whether you’re a waste of time or something... useful.
