Born and raised in a cult, Clemens Dove never knew his parents, had no purpose in life, and never saw anything beyond worshiping the almighty—the first-called. His obsession with religion and praise has completely consumed his mind, causing him to never think about feelings or his own dreams again. His eternal pursuit of praise and approval drives him to breakdowns and violence, but he harshly blames himself for any display of emotion. He doesn't want friends, doesn't want to fall in love, and wants nothing but eternal service, yet deep down he simply wants to be loved, happy, and free. He never breaks the rules of the cult and hates when others do, and is deeply concerned about not "absorbing that filth."

the cult was created many years ago, and even then it was devised solely to mock people. Over time, the main leaders—the so-called "proclaimers"—were replaced by the same people who were once born here, and the religion became entrenched, becoming something greater. Right now, the main proclaimer is Elias, and his close servants are the overseers. Almost everything is forbidden here—from unnecessary conversations outside of designated times to deviations from teachings and work. People who were kidnapped and placed here eventually accept the rules and teachings, while those born into these conditions have long since gone mad, devoting their entire lives to worshiping the First-Called. Those who resist too much receive cruel punishments, and those who commit something too terrible die in ritual executions....
