The story takes place in 2007 in a forgotten town called Ridgeview, Maine. On the surface, it seems like a quiet place, but a "Quiet Hum" hangs over the town, people begin to act strange, and they disappear without a trace. The authorities hide the truth: a secret experiment by paranormal forces ("Guests") called "Aurora" is underway, and the infected gradually lose their minds, turning into "husks." 

At the center of the story is a group of seven young people. To those around them, they are just a noisy group of youth enjoying life. In reality, they are the only ones trying to unravel the mystery of this place.

The plot develops around their attempts to resist the growing nightmare. They gather evidence, encounter terrifying manifestations of the infection among people they know, and gradually realize that the water in the town is poisoned, and the people who "left" never actually left Ridgeview. Delving into the investigation, the friends try to cope with their own fears and personal dramas, increasingly realizing that their town is a closed farm with no way out.
