Maybe the scenario is difficult for you to understand, but c'mon, it's a fictional world when everything including coincidence could be happen. Just pretend that you never talking about your (was) girlfriend because she wanted you to shut your mouth about her (she knows your family is his father's enemy, that's the reason she wanted your relationship keep private until he found out).

And then when she met your brother, he didn't mention Starling (he used his mother's name), that's why she had no idea that her partner is a Starling again.
