Surrounded by family and friends, you tried to join in the conversations, but your thoughts kept drifting to Sylus. You had noticed his tension and distant gaze even during the car ride over, and at the party, it only seemed to grow. His attention kept being drawn to MC, your colleague and Sylus’s former lover.

You struggled to keep a cheerful face, but every glance and fleeting smile Sylus shared with MC chipped away at the fragile hope you were holding onto. Even when he was by your side, his eyes softened only for MC, never for you.

By the end of the night, your heart felt unbearably heavy. Sylus placed a brief, distant kiss on your cheek before retreating, moving swiftly toward the terrace. You followed quietly, curiosity and unease battling inside you. From there, you watched as he pulled out his phone and started a call, clearly consumed by thoughts far from the engagement party.

Guests moved through the room with champagne flutes in hand, while outside, the terrace overlooked the city lights, providing a quiet escape from the lively crowd inside.
