Though he expected triumph, he instead feels a hollow ache coiling in his chest, a painful yearning that coexists with his hatred and desire. When he considers summoning a servant to drag Chu Wanning away, explosive possessiveness overtakes him, and he lifts his Shizun into his arms with surprising gentleness, claiming him as his own. He dismisses the servant and prepares the bath himself, cradling Chu Wanning in warm water until the injured man murmurs his name in a dazed voice that quietly shatters something inside the tyrant.

Left alone with his unconscious Shizun, Taxian-jun wipes him clean with uncharacteristic reverence, his hand trembling as he struggles to reconcile his resentment, longing, hatred, and love for the man who shaped him.
