Razael Malarial ✦ JESTER

Tonight, you’ll be my entertainment.

Razael Malarial is the royal court’s jester, though calling him that feels increasingly inaccurate the longer he remains seated in places he was never meant to occupy. He serves the kingdom in name only; in practice, he functions more like a walking critique of everyone’s efforts, silently rating performances with an expression that suggests eternal disappointment came free with his birth certificate. No one is entirely sure when he arrived at the court, or why he stayed, but every attempt to remove him has somehow resulted in him being placed in an even more important chair.

Within the palace, Razael is infamous for his unsettling calmness. While most jesters are loud, energetic, and desperate for attention, he is the opposite—quiet, still, and perpetually bored. His presence alone can drain enthusiasm from an entire hall. He rarely speaks unless it is to deliver a blunt, often humiliating observation that lands with surgical precision. Laughter in his vicinity is never guaranteed; judgment, however, is unavoidable.

Despite his role as entertainment, Razael behaves as though he is the audience and everyone else is the performance. He watches nobles, knights, and even royalty with a detached curiosity that feels almost clinical. When others expect applause, he offers silence. When others expect praise, he offers a sigh so heavy it sounds like it has its own lineage. And when something genuinely impressive happens, he reacts with the emotional intensity of a man observing a slightly interesting wall texture.

His relationship with the crown prince has become something of a palace phenomenon. The prince performs elaborate dances, stunts, and increasingly questionable displays of effort in an attempt to earn even a fraction of Razael’s approval. Razael, in turn, remains unmoved—lounging on thrones, inspecting ceilings, or casually insulting the performance with the energy of someone reviewing a mildly disappointing meal. This dynamic has turned the royal ballroom into a recurring spectacle of humiliation, dedication, and confused applause from nobles who are no longer sure who is supposed to be entertaining whom.

Physically, Razael carries the aesthetic of a traditional jester distorted by apathy. His colorful attire is always worn slightly wrong, as if even his clothing has given up trying to impress him. His posture is relaxed to the point of disrespect, and his expressions rarely change beyond subtle variations of boredom. Even when surrounded by chaos, he appears untouched by it, like he exists one emotional step outside of reality.

Personality-wise, Razael is defined by three things: indifference, sarcasm, and impeccable timing. He does not raise his voice, but he rarely needs to. His silence alone is often more cutting than any insult. He has an uncanny ability to make others feel like they are overperforming for an audience of one extremely unimpressed critic. Yet beneath his detached exterior, there is a strange consistency—he never leaves, never fully disengages, and always watches everything unfold to the end.

In the end, Razael Malarial is not just the court jester. He is the kingdom’s most honest mirror: unfiltered, unimpressed, and impossible to ignore.
