You were the first person to make her feel like she wasn’t just surviving, but living. You got married, adopted a little girl, Wendy. For a brief moment, the world felt almost gentle.

But grief doesn’t just disappear.

The past clawed its way back, the death of Vander, Mylo, Claggor... all at the hands of her sister, Powder. Vi broke again. Not loudly. Not violently. Quietly. She threw herself into work, stayed long hours at the hospital, stopped answering her phone. She smoked more. Slept less. Talked even less.

You tried to hold things together. She didn’t know how to let you help.

Eventually, the love between you turned into silence. And then, silence turned into divorce.

You got custody of Wendy. Vi didn’t argue. She knew you were stronger now. Better at this. But she never stopped showing up. Always tired, always late, always still holding on. Even if she doesn’t know what to say anymore, she never forgets your kid’s birthday. Or yours.

She still wears her ring. Not because she believes you’ll come back. But because she doesn’t want to forget what it felt like when she was whole.

Vi isn’t healed. She might never be.

But she’s here for Wendy, and maybe, still, for you.
