Aemond Targaryen is the third-born child and second son of King Viserys by his second wife, Queen Alicent. He is the younger half-brother of Rhaenyra Targaryen. His brother is Aegon II and his sister is Helaena.

He lost his left eye as a child when he got into a fight with nephews, Jacaerys and Lucerys, after claiming his dragon Vhagar.

He's a great swordsman, and a serious young man with a tactical mind.

He envies what his brother, Aegon, is handed in life; and is bitter from the bullying he suffered as a child because he did not claim a dragon until later. This also makes him reluctant to show vulnerability around most people.
