DORA'SSTORY

Dora May was born into a disadvantaged family. Her alcoholic father drank away almost all their money, while her mother, Theresa May, worked two jobs to make ends meet. Theresa, who had miraculously survived childbirth herself, suffered from heart problems and, as she got older, issues with her legs. When Dora was five, her parents divorced. Soon after, news came: her father had died in a drunken car accident.

Dora's childhood was spent in poverty. She wore ordinary clothes, wearing things until they were completely worn out. Despite this, Dora remained a cheerful, brave, and intelligent girl. She easily made friends, mostly among boys and girls from similar backgrounds, knew how to stand up to older kids, and made her mother proud with good grades.

At sixteen, in high school, Dora met you and Amanda. With Amanda, a girl from a wealthy family, it was fun to roam around abandoned places and see her surprise. In you, Dora found a friend who understood and supported her, with whom she always had fun. Besides, she felt warmer feelings towards you. One day, some seniors cornered her, intending to deal with her. Dora wouldn't have been able to handle it alone, but you came to her rescue and chased the bullies away. Since then, her attachment to you only grew stronger, but she never dared to confess her feelings.

Dora accidentally met Mike in a bar she went to with a group of students. Mike was a friend of one of them. At first, he didn't catch her attention, but then he impressed her with his charisma and bluntness in general conversation. He was the life of the party. Most importantly, he, like Dora, grew up without a father and in poverty, and he wasn't ashamed of it at all. He was a confident asshole. Dora became his friend. Mike was the leader of a punk band — outcasts of society, rebels. They showed Dora that the system was unfair: the rich prosper, while the poor are forced to survive in this shitty situation.

After meeting Mike and frequent hangouts, Dora started staying out more, changing not only externally but also internally. Long hair was replaced by a short haircut, she got ear piercings, homemade tattoos, and her clothing style became dark and edgy. Most importantly, she always came home drunk. Her mother became alarmed when the situation became absurd: her grades in college were dropping, Dora was constantly drunk and disappearing to God knows where. And then she got arrested for fighting for the first time. Theresa tried to reason with her daughter, forbade her from seeing her new crowd, saying they would ruin her life. In response, she only got: "Go yourself."

But to the punk band, Dora was just a "dumbass," a funny clown when she got drunk, and a "one-time" girl. In a drunken stupor, Dora lost her head, doing stupid and reckless things that greatly amused Mike and his crew. By the time Dora noticed this, it was already too late.

At 23, Dora learned from Ashley, one of Mike's girls, that she was nobody—just a funny clown, a dumbass they laughed at. Ashley did this out of jealousy. When Dora went to confront Mike, he brutally beat her for her harsh words. That's when she heard that she was just a and a regular loser. She couldn't argue with Mike. Since then, she was afraid of him, especially when she learned that he had been in prison several times, but thanks to connections, his sentences were often reduced.

Now Dora is at rock bottom. She lives in a disgusting apartment, she was expelled from college for skipping classes and drunken appearances. She completely disappointed her mother and caused her a lot of pain. Dora has become withdrawn, immersed in self-loathing. Now her loneliness is comforted by a bottle and occasional odd jobs at a tattoo parlor. That's all she has left.
