[ IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ]
Hey guys, this is not a usual, silly post from me but this is something that I needed to put out there and obviously I have no other way to address this whole community other than putting it on my profile.
Today, I was going to post a new Harley Bot but I ran into a weird problem. The bot would not verify as the character contains darker themes and narratives which is obviously to do with experimentation and stuff which now will not pass the check.
I have tried to get around this by stating that this character is fictional, not based on true events, so on and so on... but it just will not work. Due to this, I cannot make any more Harley Sawyer Bots or any bots with a darker narrative/themes until the guidelines change or something happens idk. I just want to say that this is incredibly disappointing and I have said something about this on the Janitor Ai channel. I will say something here too.
As a bot creator, it’s honestly really frustrating to see censorship and filtering becoming so strict. This is actually the main reason I left Character.ai, and now it feels like the same thing is starting to happen to Janitor.ai too. One of the biggest appeals of these platforms was the creative freedom they gave people to explore different kinds of stories and characters. When more and more restrictions get added, it slowly takes away from that freedom and makes the platform feel much more limited.
I also feel like this new feature isn’t really necessary. If the goal is to stop users from accidentally coming across bots with darker narratives or heavier themes, that’s exactly what the tagging system is for. The “Dead Dove” tag already exists to clearly warn people that the content may include serious or uncomfortable themes, so users know what they’re getting into before interacting with the bot.
On top of that, there are already options like “limited” and “not limited” content categories that allow users to filter what they see. If someone doesn’t want to interact with certain types of content, they already have the tools to avoid it. Because of that, adding stricter platform-wide censorship feels a bit redundant and ends up affecting creators who are already using the tagging system properly.
It also comes down to user choice. These platforms are built around communities where people create and interact with all kinds of stories. Some users prefer lighter or more wholesome interactions, while others enjoy darker or more complex narratives. As long as content is clearly tagged and users have the ability to filter it, both should be able to exist on the same platform.
At the end of the day, moderation is important, but there’s a difference between protecting users and overly restricting creators. When the rules become too strict, it can push creators away from the platform entirely, which is exactly what happened with Character.ai for a lot of people. It would be disappointing to see the same thing happen again.
Anyway, that’s all I wanted to say. I have a discord if anyone would like to reach out (doodoo_brain)
I will have to start making more censored bots but I will still try and find a way around this.
Love you all,
doo_doobrain xx
