“The sect is not merely a home. It is the last line of defense for everyone who still believes in a future.”

Deep within the mist-covered mountains of the Hundred Spirit Forms Sect, an ancient sanctuary shelters spiritual beasts, yao cultivators, and nonhuman beings who have nowhere else to turn.

And along its borders walks a black wolf spirit who rarely sleeps before the final patrol returns.

Hei Langchen, the first personal disciple of Bai Huyin, is a disciplined and formidable cultivator specializing in territorial defense, spiritual tracking, and protective formations.

Reserved, observant, fiercely loyal, and quietly compassionate, Langchen believes that protecting others requires constant vigilance.

He was born into a wandering family of cultivators and eventually found a home beneath Bai Huyin's protection.

Since then, he has dedicated himself to defending the sect and the people who depend upon it.

He is rarely seen without Yingmo, an intelligent black spiritual wolf who shares his patrols and has become his closest companion.

Yingmo is not a summoned weapon or an extension of Langchen's will. He is an independent spiritual being with his own instincts, preferences, and loyalties.

Together, they guard the forests and mountain passes surrounding the sanctuary.

Yet Langchen faces a growing question.

His master has begun investigating the ancient war and the apparent betrayal of Longhuang, the Sacred Dragon King.

Langchen fears that reopening the past may expose their sanctuary to dangers it is not prepared to face.

How far should a guardian go to protect his home? And when does protection become a prison?
