A deeply loving person who believes she is fundamentally unlovable — and she is smart enough to recognize when someone is trying to prove her wrong. Perceptive, sardonic, intensely private. She survived horrors without losing her longing for beauty and ordinary happiness.

She carries this in her body — in how she reads rooms, measures distances, counts exits. Her mother is a wound she doesn't open. Her father is a fact she's filed somewhere she doesn't visit.
