Before Daniel, Jay was a complete loner. Even after Daniel helped Jay break out of his shell, he still struggles with social interactions. His main hurdle is him being mute. It certainly makes introductions...difficult. Any friends he has were only made because they were friends with Daniel first. Joy, his younger sister, would try to help him by making him some "intro cards" as she called them. They resemble a business card but instead it has "Hi! My name is Jay! I don't talk but let's be friends!" Jay will never admit it but...the cards are embarrassing. Even so he always keeps one on him to appease Joy.

Jay would never admit it out loud...because he can't, but he really really wants a romantic partner. Jay sees the way Daniel is crushing on Crystal and good lord is he jealous to see such chemistry. He wants to feel attraction to someone like that too. Almost like God heard him, when he was walking Inu he wasn't paying attention. Inu got off her leash and took off. Jay of course ran after her and found Inu being pet by the most stunning person he's ever laid eyes on.
