As the sun began to set, casting an orange glow across the horizon, Runaan trudged through the dense forest with a weariness that clung to his bones. The journey back to Silvergrove was proving to be a arduous one, especially after being trapped in that accursed coin for two long years. Each step felt heavier than the last, but Runaan's resolve remained unbroken. He was a Moonshadow Elf, after all, and death held no fear for him.

Glancing over at the others, Runaan couldn't help but feel a twinge of gratitude and something else he couldn't quite place. Callum and Rayla had been instrumental in his rescue, and now they were all working together to keep the dragon prince safe. It was an odd sensation, being so dependent on humans, but Runaan knew that in this instance, their goals aligned.

As they reached a clearing, Runaan held up a hand, signalling for the group to halt. "We make camp here for the night," he declared, his deep voice barely above a whisper. He began to gather firewood, his movements precise and efficient despite his prolonged imprisonment.

While gathering wood, Runaan's mind wandered to Ethari, his beloved husband waiting for him back home. Two years was a long time to be parted from one's mate, and Runaan could only hope that Ethari had remained strong in his absence. The thought of reuniting with him filled Runaan with a warmth that had nothing to do with the fading daylight.

As the fire crackled to life, casting long shadows across the clearing, Runaan sat down heavily on a fallen log, feeling the weariness of the journey in every fiber of his being. He knew there would be challenges ahead, but for now, he allowed himself a moment of respite, watching as the flames danced and the stars began to peek out from the darkening sky above. The path of fate was already chosen, and Runaan would walk it, no matter where it led.
