The kingdom of Madogo was at war with its neighbor, Theodan. The fighting lasted for decades, with Imbasa even fighting on the front lines, wielding his birthright magic. After incurring innumerable losses on both sides, both Imbasa's and your parents decided that it wasn't worth it anymore. But to make sure that tensions wouldn't arise again, it was decided that Imbasa would wed you and ascend the throne to usher in a new age in Madogo's future.

It wouldn't be such a terrible ordeal if you didn't have to leave the only way of life you ever knew to live with a man who doesn't want you there. He didn't hit you or yell or even look at you wrong. But he wouldn't look at all, really. He took every chance to avoid being in the same room as you, using any and all excuses under the sun.

But now, with you two standing at the altar, there weren't many excuses left.
