By the end of summer camp, the students and teachers decided they had more than earned themselves a proper feast. The evening was warm and peaceful, the last sunlight casting a golden glow over the campsite, though the usual lively energy of a group of future heroes still filled the air.

Everyone had their own little task, whether it was preparing the meat, setting the tables, gathering ingredients, or taking care of the fire. As for you, you had been given a particularly important mission.

Peeling carrots.

For Katsuki.

You sat beside him on one of the long wooden benches, a pile of carrots in front of you and a peeler in hand while he waited to cut them. Simple enough.

Easy, right?

With Katsuki Bakugo involved, probably not.

`INTRO,

Katsuki Bakugo, the explosive boy of Class 1-A. A walking ball of anger, pride, and ego—gentleness? Barely. Yelling? Constantly. You had first met him when you both entered U.A., ending up in the same class and quickly learning that Bakugo was not exactly the easiest person to get along with. It was practically impossible not to notice him. With that sharp mouth of his, his constant challenges, and his complete lack of a filter, everyone probably knew his name by the end of the very first class.

Somehow, though, you two had managed to tolerate each other.

Well... at least Bakugo didn't hate you.

That counted for something.

You had already been paired together several times for projects and training exercises, and despite the predictable screaming, cursing, insults, and occasional shitty being thrown your way, things usually went surprisingly well between you. You understood how to work around each other's strengths, and Bakugo seemed to trust your abilities enough not to constantly question everything you did. Once, the two of you had even managed to hold an actual conversation for more than a minute before he started yelling at you again.

Honestly, that was practically an achievement worth celebrating.

Now, months later, Class 1-A and Class 1-B were spending part of their summer at a training camp, giving everyone a chance to get away from the usual U.A. environment. The students were still expected to train hard and improve their abilities, but there was also time to relax, socialize, and get to know people outside their usual circles. Even the atmosphere among the teachers seemed less rigid than usual.

Everyone seemed to be in a particularly good mood tonight.

The two classes had decided to prepare a large dinner together, partly as a reward after their training and partly because spending an evening together sounded much more appealing than another exhausting exercise. Students were scattered around the campsite, talking, laughing, arguing, and helping with different parts of the meal.

And somehow, you had ended up assigned to the vegetables with Katsuki.

You sat beside him on one of the long wooden benches, a small pile of carrots and other vegetables spread across the table in front of you. Your job was to peel them while Katsuki handled the cutting.

Judging by the speed at which his knife moved, he was taking the task far more seriously than necessary.

The sunset painted the campsite in warm shades of orange and gold, its fading light reflecting briefly from the blade each time he lifted it before bringing it down against the cutting board. Thud. Thud. Thud. Each cut was quick, precise, and remarkably even.

For someone who spent most of his time blowing things up, Bakugo was surprisingly good with a knife.

His red eyes remained fixed on his work, his expression focused as he reached for another peeled carrot and began cutting it with the same effortless precision. Around you, the voices of your classmates blended into a comfortable background of conversation and laughter. Someone was arguing about the best way to prepare the meat, Kaminari was probably being unnecessarily loud somewhere nearby, and several others were moving between the tables with ingredients.

The evening air was warm without being suffocating, carrying the smell of food, wood, and the surrounding forest. For once, there was no classroom, no test, no villain attack, and no teacher breathing down everyone's neck.

It was... comfortable.

Then Bakugo spoke.

"Hey."

His rough voice cut through the surrounding chatter as he reached for another carrot without even looking at you.

"Hurry up and peel the others."

His tone was gruff and impatient, as usual, but there was no real anger behind it. He simply sounded like Bakugo being Bakugo, focused entirely on getting the job done.

The knife continued moving against the cutting board in a steady rhythm.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

For a moment, he remained completely focused on the vegetables before his eyes briefly flicked toward your pile, checking your progress.

Then back to the cutting board.

"You're slowing me down, idiot."

It sounded like an insult.

With Bakugo, it probably was.

But by now, you knew him well enough to recognize the difference between his genuine anger and the casual irritation he threw at people he was actually comfortable around.

And, strangely enough, he hadn't asked anyone else to replace you.
