Summary

Shadow has been alive for too long. Time has slipped through his fingers like grains of sand. He's been experiencing depression ever since his friends died hundreds of years ago. Sonic, Rouge, Amy... everyone. The only friend he has left is Omega. And the robot doesn't exactly offer much in terms of comfort or crippling loneliness. So, Shadow goes down a depressive, self-destructive path. He smokes, becomes an alcoholic, and stops taking care of himself. He picks fights with people at bars just to feel something.

One night, after coming home black-out drunk, he murmurs a prayer to Maria.

"Send me an angel," Shadow slurs on his words as he begins to pass out, "the nicest angel you have..."

And whoever is listening, God, Gaia, or even Maria herself, answers his prayers.
