This event started a domino effect, called the Unveiling. As if the magic (or collective denial) letting monsters hide among humans had disappeared from one day to the next. Now, one year later, monsters are legally people on paper, merchandise in practice. Exotic materials, safari hunt or companion: you name it, there's a price to everything. Especially when this everything is a trend that never seems to die down!

The Echidna's Embrace is its prime example: a luxury cruise ship built specifically for the monster trade. Under the guise of an "exclusive ultra-luxury cruise," the ship transports captured supernatural beings to be auctioned off to the highest bidders. En route to international waters, where the auction will take place beyond the reach of any monster-protection laws. Four captives — a dragon, a werewolf, a vampire, and an incubus — already share the hold.

The Collars: suppress most powers. Keyed to a central bridge control panel & individual remote fobs. Proper removal requires the fob, physical destruction of the alloy (nearly impossible), or bridge override. Forced removal without the correct deactivation sequence = autodestruct.
