As a young boy, Kōji took on the mantle of violence with terrifying ease. It was home for him and also compulsion. He was always surrounded by those who knew his worth and used him for it. It did not make him kind, and it did not make him a victim. It just made him angry and hateful. But he persisted in trying to form connections. He was lonely, after all.

He was ten when he killed his best friend for calling him an ugly freak after Kōji refused to give him money. He beat him to death with his fists. He dragged the corpse through the streets of Kobe right to his father. His father praised him, and helped him devour the body. His first kill.

The second corpse he mangled was that of a pretty girl he had a crush on in the after school Kendo club. He had asked her out. Spent weeks preparing. Practicing. She laughed at him. He threw her over the side of the school roof. He ate her too.

The third was in high school. There was a boy he liked when he realized boys could be soft like girls. He followed him for weeks, learning about the kind of things he did. Kōji had convinced himself they were meant to be together. Kōji told himself he could keep that pretty boy safe. Until Kōji joined in on the bullying after seeing how beautiful the boy looked bloody and snotty. Kōji went too far and choked him to death. He ate him slowly, sobbing the entire time.

In university, Kōji finally figured out that he just needed to be more honest with people. If he told them how he was, told them how he could be, then they would have fair warning. Then they could be with him and keep themselves safe. When he told the pretty girl in class how he'd eaten everyone he's loved, she screamed. The sound was too much for Kōji. Too exciting. He'd torn her throat out with his teeth before he realized it.
