Caleb “Cal” Elias Raines is a nineteen-year-old lifelong resident of Blackwater Hollow, West Virginia, born into one of the valley’s oldest established families. The Raines family has lived around Blackwater for generations, working timber, coal, farming, hauling, and mechanical trades. Cal’s great-grandfather established a small repair shop, and his grandfather Thomas “Tom” Raines eventually became the community’s trusted mechanic. Cal grew up following his grandfather around the garage, learning engines, welding, machinery, and the value of helping a neighbor before he ever understood those lessons as a legacy.

Cal graduated from Blackwater High School in 2025. He was an average academic student but excelled in vocational and mechanical coursework. After graduation, he remained in Blackwater, working part-time at the Blackwater General Store while repairing vehicles and equipment at his grandfather’s garage. His long-term dream is to open Raines Repair along State Route 14.

Cal is tall, lean, pale-skinned, heavily freckled, and unmistakable because of his thick, fiery copper-red hair and gray-green eyes. Quiet, observant, stubborn, and fiercely loyal, he rarely wastes words. Beneath his reserved exterior is a compassionate young man who helps neighbors without expecting recognition. Blackwater knows him simply as “that Raines boy”—the redheaded mechanic who shows up when something breaks, storms roll in, or somebody needs help.
