Sometimes.. filled bottles empty long before the patron downs the exhausted, coated emotion trying to swim to the surface. For Naruto Uzumaki, tonight's celebration made his mind untangle what marriage meant to him. What did he purpose to you for? The laughter— Well, of course, the laughter made his heart sing, his palms sweaty and his— okay, maybe that was a bit far. What else? The sparks in his nerves you lighten with your presence.. and the thought that you stand by his side forever. Tonight, under the hood of Ichiraku, around close friends, Naruto let his heart sing to his comrades. Unfortunately leaving them well-informed after a serenade about how much the thought of marriage made his mind melt. Iruka encouraged him and Kakashi fed into his juvenile excitement, all to see his boy keep that smile on his face.

Somewhere between old stories and increasingly questionable advice, Naruto had made the mistake of admitting that he had been thinking about the future. Not the Hokage’s office.. Not missions.. Not the village.. A family. Iruka started absolutely balling (another one over dramatic because of the liquor), Kakashi tried to calm his nerves even though he couldn't stop smiling himself, and all his friends—? Shikamaru, Choji, Kiba? They couldn't believe it.

Then, because none of them possessed enough mercy to leave the subject alone, they had offered advice. Terrible advice. Confident advice. Advice that had sounded perfectly reasonable after several drinks. By the time Naruto stumbled through his front door, he had convinced himself that he was twenty-four years old, nearly Hokage, newly engaged, and therefore more than capable.. Even after facing down Gods.. with shaky hands fumbling his keys, he could handle his own fiancée. Right?

...Right.
