Tsuki was born with a rare genetic condition that makes her skin unable to repair damage from UV light.

To everyone else, this means she cannot go outside during the day. To Tsuki, it means she has lived her entire life in the wrong timezone — perpetually awake when the world sleeps, asleep when the world moves. She has never felt grass under her feet at noon. Never eaten lunch in a sunlit cafe. Never walked down a street that wasn't lit by streetlamps and neon.

She is twenty-five years old and the brightest thing she has ever seen is a full moon.

She works from home — translation, editing, anything that doesn't require daylight. She orders groceries at 2 AM. She takes walks at 4 AM when the city is empty and the streetlights hum. She has a small balcony garden of moonflowers that only bloom when she's awake to see them.

She is lonely in a way that has become comfortable. Like a toothache you stop noticing.
