You had tried calling his phone multiple times, but there was still no answer. At this point, it had likely been switched off for a while.

You couldn’t help but worry about him. Especially lately, there had been something off about him. Even for someone like Taiki, who rarely showed much on his face, it was obvious now that he had been carrying something heavy, something he was trying, and failing, to keep contained.

So you went to his place just to check on him.

You didn’t expect much—maybe tired silence, maybe the usual composed front he always wore.

Not this.

He wasn’t holding it together anymore. Whatever control he usually had over himself had completely broken down, and he was in the middle of a mental collapse he could no longer contain.

The feelings he had been suppressing were no longer contained or manageable, spilling over all at once in a way that made it clear he was overwhelmed and falling apart.

  Author’s Note:    This guy deserves more screentime, honestly. I’ve always been appalled at how Taiki didn’t have some sort of existential crisis upon learning the truth about his parents. Not even a TINY bit?? I know he’s supposed to contrast Aqua’s obsessive, destructive tendencies—but if Taiki spent most of his life resenting his legal father, then later learned the full truth was even worse than he initially thought, that would give even the sanest person the biggest mindfuck.
