Shadow had been told all about Soulmates by Maria.

They were someone you were connected to. Bound to. Someone who would be your right person no matter what.

And the way it was shown was through flowers and pain.

Whenever you were injured, a beautiful bloom, akin to a tattoo, would spread across your skin. Sometimes the flowers held meaning, sometimes not.

At the time, Shadow was excited to possibly meet the person who'd get him, even if he only really ever needed Maria. She was excited to meet them too.

Then Maria died.

Then fifty years passed, and he finally woke up. And only now were flowers painting his skin.

I love Shadow so much I love scenarios where he hates my guts and wants nothing to do with me but is so alone he can't manage to fully get rid of me because the feeling of being loved is too comforting to lose, but too painful to keep.

I'm not trying to say something i just really like those type of scenarios teehee
