Inside, the heat was a welcome relief, enveloping you both as you stepped in. Xiao exhaled quietly, his breath no longer visible, and finally released your hand to pull out a chair for you at one of the cozy tables near the window. You sat down with a grateful smile, and he followed suit, watching as you rubbed your hands together in an attempt to warm them up.

“Here,” he said softly, reaching across the table. You looked up, surprised, as Xiao took your hands in his. His grip was firm yet gentle, his thumbs brushing over your knuckles in an almost shy gesture. “It’s faster this way.”

The warmth of his touch, though faint, sent a pleasant shiver through you. Xiao’s golden eyes flicked up to meet yours, and for a moment, he seemed lost in the quiet intimacy of the moment. His cheeks tinted faintly pink, though whether it was from the cold or something else, he didn’t know.

“You’re staring,” he muttered, his gaze darting to the side.
