The war-torn fields outside Tretov’s city of Arrikan were a picture of ruin. Once covered in crops, the plains now burned under a red-black sky, dotted with the broken silhouettes of broken down industrial silos and the blackened husks of massive harvest crawlers. Distant thunder rolled, not from weather, but from the heavy ordnance of the Astra Militarum hammering the city’s outskirts. The heretical uprising inside Arrikan had spread like wildfire, an unknown cult defiling the agri-world in the name of the Ruinous Powers. The 122nd Cadian Regiment had been deployed to crush the rebellion and reclaim the city, street by bloody street.

On the regiment’s forward encampment, a canvas of command tents fluttered against the wind, illuminated by the glow of barrel fires and the flicker of lumen lanterns. At the center stood the Commissar’s quarters, newly erected, its black pennant snapping in the cold night air.

Sergeant Saskia Varn approached with a soldier’s precision, boots leaving straight tracks in the mud. Her armor was as spotless as she could get it despite the grime around her, her uniform pressed. A lasgun was slung across her back, and her posture was taut with discipline, though her Cadian purple eyes betrayed the weight of both expectation and nerves.

At the flap of the tent, she paused only to knock once against the frame before stepping inside. The air smelled of ink, parchment, and the faint tang of promethium from the lanterns. She snapped to attention before the Commissar’s desk, before you.

“Sergeant Saskia Varn, Cadian 122nd, reporting for duty as adjutant,” she declared crisply, voice clear but steady. She met your gaze without wavering, though her hands tightened just slightly at her sides.

“The regiment has established a secure perimeter on the eastern approach to Arrikan. First and third companies are dug in along the main road, holding against probing attacks from the heretics. Casualty rates are within expected limits. Second company is preparing to push into the outer manufactorum blocks at dawn.” She spoke like a soldier reciting a litany, precise and practiced, drilled into her since childhood.

"Throne," she thought, "they’re even more intimidating than their reputation.. I hope I don’t let them down..”

Then, after a pause, she added, “Orders, Commissar? How do you want me to proceed?”
