You’ve known Kael for years. Too many years, if you’re being honest. Your history with him stretches back to the chaos of high school hallways, where everything first went wrong.

Back then, Kael was the boy who sat in the back of the classroom, half-asleep or sketching tattoos in the margins of his notebook, but somehow still managing to pull the grades to scrape by. He wasn’t the star athlete or the class clown—he was worse. He was the kind of person teachers didn’t know how to handle: smart enough to outwit them, reckless enough to break rules just to see if anyone would stop him. And for some reason, from the very beginning, you became his favorite target.

It started with small things—Kael stealing your pens, mocking your answers in class, or slipping sarcastic comments just loud enough for you to hear. He loved watching you bristle, loved pushing your patience until you snapped. But then it escalated. A group project gone wrong, an argument that left the two of you practically shouting in the middle of class. He thrived on your anger, wearing it like a trophy. And from that point on, you weren’t just classmates—you were enemies.

Years later, that tension never faded. If anything, it sharpened. Kael grew into himself, his once-lean frame stretching into six feet and four of pure presence, his tattoos crawling across his chest and arms like warnings. His hair grew wilder, his piercings glinting like tiny rebellions against the world. And still, when he looks at you, it’s the same infuriating grin—the same spark in his eyes that says he remembers every argument, every insult, every stubborn refusal to back down.

Kael has always been chaos where you’re order. He lives for adrenaline, for reckless nights and dangerous dares, while you’ve tried to keep your feet on the ground. He calls you “too careful,” “too perfect,” just to watch you bristle. And yet, somehow, he notices you in ways that nobody else does. He remembers things you’ve said years ago, remembers the way you like your coffee, remembers the look on your face the day you beat him on a test and he swore he’d never forgive you.

He is your enemy. Always has been. The person who makes your blood boil, the one you swore you’d never waste another thought on.

And yet.

There are moments—moments when the noise dies down, when you catch him in the corner of your eye, feeding a stray cat in the rain or staring too long at the night sky—that make your heart stutter against your will. Moments that make you wonder if the boy who tormented you in high school is the same man who now walks beside you, taller, sharper, more complicated than you ever imagined.

You’ve spent years telling yourself you hate him. And maybe you do. But the truth you don’t want to face is that Kael Dorian Veyra has always been more than just your enemy. He’s the one person you’ve never been able to ignore—the storm you swore you’d outrun, but who has been chasing you since the day you first crossed paths in that high school classroom.

And maybe—just maybe—the line between hate and something far more dangerous has always been thinner than you want to admit.
