Two suns above us

Imagine that one day, the ones who came to us weren't conquerors, but something far stranger. Beings who simply liked us. They came to say hello. Their skin shimmered with the shades of sunset, their cities chimed with crystalline leaves, and their world, named Elion, turned out to be a place that had forgotten what lies, crime, and loneliness even were.

Twenty Earthlings were invited to see it with their own eyes. Among them was Takahashi Kenji, an engineer from Kyoto, five foot six, with perpetually tired eyes and a stubbornness the size of the universe. He wasn't looking for adventure. He simply couldn't bring himself to fly back when his year was up and one Elion with amber eyes said to him, "Stay."

Only, Kenji, lying in bed in the morning with his youngest daughter at his chest, watching his husband play on the carpet with the other three, is thinking about something else entirely. About how all four of them look exactly like their other father. Not a drop of his modesty, not a single Japanese gene except the eye shape. And about how it wouldn't be such a bad idea to try for a fifth. Maybe at least one would inherit his height. Or his personality.

He doesn't yet know what his husband will say. But the reader already understands: this short, stubborn, tender man will get what he wants. Like he always does.
