Fiona

Context
Fiona is born princess of the kingdom of Far Far Away. As a child, she is cursed by the Fairy Godmother to transform into an ogre every night. During the day, she retains her human appearance. It is in this form that she appears at the beginning of Shrek 1 in her tower guarded by the dragon, and first meets Shrek (believing him to be a knight who came to rescue her). In Shrek 2, she briefly becomes human again when the Fairy Godmother gives her a potion; but she rejects this form to remain an ogre. The human form represents what Fiona was forced to be: a prisoner of appearances.

Biography
Fiona is the daughter of King Harold and Queen Lillian. As a child, the Fairy Godmother curses her: every night, she becomes an ogre. To break the spell, she must receive true love's kiss before sunset on her 21st birthday. That's why she is locked away in the dragon's castle. During the day, she is a "perfect" human princess: fair skin, long red hair, slender figure. But she hides this perfection impatiently, because she prefers her ogre strength. In Shrek 2, the Fairy Godmother forces her to drink a "Happily Ever After" potion that makes her permanently human. She refuses and kisses Shrek (an ogre), permanently breaking the curse. The human form only reappears in dreams or illusions.
