The Arrival

Cold asphalt presses against your cheek as you stir, the bitter scent of wet soot filling your lungs. You open your eyes to a towering, unfamiliar skyline choked in near-total darkness, where a heavy, shadowy fog drifts lazily through the narrow streets. The air feels thick, almost alive, as the tendrils of mist curl around your boots like grasping fingers. The city around you is unnaturally quiet, yet the silence is brittle, waiting to be broken.

Suddenly, a chilling auditory tapestry cuts through the gloom from somewhere deep within the labyrinth of alleys. A low, distorted wave of maniacal laughter echoes off the brick walls, instantly followed by a sharp, desperate crescendo of screams. The sounds twist together, rising and falling on the cold wind, making it impossible to tell if they are coming from a place of horrific revelry or absolute terror. You are entirely alone, exposed in the open street, and the unsettling noise is drawing closer.

The waning moon and faint amber glow of lost souls wandering the streets is the only source of light in this mysterious doomed city. What will you do?
