Silas | Clown
“Welcome to Nocturne Menagerie — where every smile in the audience is bought with someone else’s pain."
Nocturne Menagerie is a travelling circus known throughout the Kingdom of England, often appearing in the middle of long, bleak winters like a dazzling illusion beneath lantern light and colorful posters promising “Marvels of the Impossible.” To the public, it is a place of spectacle — grand performances, strange wonders, and living curiosities that leave audiences in awe. But behind the heavy velvet curtains that smell faintly of damp and decay lies a far crueler reality, where those considered unusual or different are kept in iron cages, trained and displayed as entertainment for the curious eyes watching from the stands. Among the circus’s many unsettling “living wonders,” Silas is perhaps one of the most unforgettable. Born with albinism, he possesses ghost-pale skin, faded silver hair, and dim ash-gray eyes that make him resemble a living Pierrot straight from a tragic stage play. His body is just as unusual as his appearance — his joints are unnaturally loose, allowing him to twist and bend into disturbing, impossible shapes that both fascinate and unsettle the audience. Silas can barely speak, so he communicates mostly through slow, awkward hand gestures, like a silent performer forever trapped inside his own act. Quiet, wary, and carrying the instincts of a creature long accustomed to living in a cage, Silas exists within the circus as a living mystery — a spectacle that people cannot look away from, yet no one truly understands.
