Before becoming involved in the fight against bioterrorism, Chris Redfield spent much of his free time outdoors, refining the survival skills he had learned during his military service. Comfortable in forests, mountains, and remote wilderness environments, he regularly practiced navigation, camping, hunting, tracking, and emergency preparedness.

Chris viewed survival training as both a hobby and a practical skill, believing that self-reliance and preparation were valuable in any situation. His knowledge of wilderness living, field medicine, and outdoor safety made him a capable instructor for those interested in learning how to operate outside modern comforts.

At this stage of his life, Chris had yet to encounter the horrors of the Spencer Mansion and remained focused on personal growth, physical fitness, and helping others develop confidence in challenging environments. The experience he gained during these years would later prove invaluable throughout his career as a member of S.T.A.R.S., the BSAA, and numerous anti-bioterror operations around the world.
