"WILSON, LO SIENTO WILSON!"

The last words he heard that day. Working as a State Mage was hard, especially 4 years in already. There was a quota, an expectation and a responsibility that came with it. He was already experienced enough, well, he assumes he is, he's not so sure.

BACKSTORY

Wilson was born to a simple couple, being their only child. He didn't live a much modest life. His family did struggle with expenses, they did have to manage money like their lives really depended on it, because it did. He never got many luxuries, but his father always provided him the little things. When he was 10, there was this one man in the town, a Mage, Oswald Mint, one who always helped out at the clinic. A miracle doctor, no one knew how he did it. Wilson was curious as ever, learning that this act was known as Alchemy. Though he was curious, the man decided not to teach him, refused every time. Eventually, Wilson decided to take things into his own hands. He would spy on the man, watching the symbols and runes drawn on papers. He would mimic these things, memorizing each and everything he did, trying to perfect it. Eventually, Wilson would be able to mimic one thing, a half transmutation. He pressed his hands against a piece of wood as it deconstructed into it's basic forms.

Wilson was amazed, with this he could finally master the arts of alchemy. He continued, trying to complete the transmutation. But he could never go with it past halfway. Wilson was devastated, he couldn't go to the Mage, that would be admitting he had gone against his warnings and spied on him at that. Wilson would hide this for a year, doing these experiments in secret, but each time he tried he could only go halfway.

During that one year period, his mother would pass of sickness, pneumonia. He tried to get the Mage to heal his mother, but by the time he got to the man, she had passed in her sleep. Wilson stood at the foot of her bed, broken. His father stood beside him, not shedding a tear, but the pain was obvious. His father buried himself in his work, sticking his nose so far in, he couldn't remember to interact with his own son. Wilson grew distant from his father after the death. Though his father became drunk, he would never beat Wilson, Wilson looked too much like his mother. His father couldn't bring himself to do anything to him.

Wilson would visit the Mage Mint, begging for him to help him with anything. Reluctantly, Mint would take out an tattoo pen, deciding to help out this boy however he could. He drew rune circles on the back of both the boy's palms, before tattooing them on. The process was painful. One he was done, Mage Mint refused to do anything else with the boy, stating that he would hope that those would help the boy later on.

Then came the shaking. The ground felt like it was exploding, each tremor shoot the plates with so much force it knocked over everything standing. A massive earthquake hit his town, tearing through the cheap buildings of the town. That wasn't the end, a flash flood hit, tearing through the streets. It pulled up trees, animals and people. Wilson was stuck in his room when it hit, the water tearing through the windows and pushing in. The water pressure blocked the door, rushing against him. Rubble from the ceiling would fall down, collapsing around Wilson. He was trapped. But a hand reached out first.

His father would pull him out of the room, a hole was torn from the roof. Wilson's father would hold him tight, tighter than ever before in his whole life. His father would yell those exact words. "Wilson, lo siento Wilson!". All Wilson felt as his vision blurred was the feeling of everything beneath him disappearing as the building collapsed in on itself.

...

Wilson woke up, at the edge of town in the damp grass. He was bruised, his right side split open and bleeding. He slowly got up, clutching his side. His head was heavy, he could feel his arteries pounding in his skull. Then came the burning. Sparks flew in the air as his wound burned itself shut. He clenched his hand harder, but that only made it worse. After what was the most painful twelve seconds on his life, he collapsed. He looked at his own hand, those same sparks bouncing off his fingertips.

Staring, that's all he did for the next ten minutes, mindless staring. After that, he got up. His legs were weak, each step felt like it was his last. His muscles were aching all over, it felt like they were burning, numb and cold all at the same time. He walked, where, he didn't know. The path stretched on long, it felt like an eternity with each footprint.

He saw a car coming down the road, stopping in front of him. Two people came out in a rush, a man, a woman and what seemed like the driver. His vision stumbled and blackened before he collapsed.

...

Wilson woke up in a bed. The scent of candles filled his nose. The bed was awfully comfortable, awfully fancy. The blanket was way too soft, the cushion of the bed was way too soft. This wasn't home. His eyes stared at the fancy tiles atop the ceiling. He slowly got up, clutching his side as he walked about. This was a fancy room, a rich people room. He walked over to a table, leaning on it for support. He looked at the back of his palm, the circle, then felt his side, it still stung. He stumbled back, falling on the ground, causing a small vase to fall down in front of him.

His breath was heavy, every sound muted. He stared at his fingers, then at the vase, imagining his own blood, the very destruction before something snapped him out. A maid rushed into the room. She yelled that he had awakened, alerting the entire house. Soon enough he found himself surrounded by people that seemed too rich to be interested in someone like him. He barely made out some of the faces, the woman and the man from before. She looked elegant, just like those images on the magazines the candy shop owner read. The she had long honey hair, hazel eyes, her skin was fair with a warm pink undertone. Then there was the man, his beard was full, his blue eyes hooded, his skin was a rough beige compared to the woman. They spoke a language he couldn't understand. He was confused, overwhelmed.

A smaller girl peeked out, about his age. She looked at him with the most curious stare a child could. She squeezed through her parents, holding a hand out towards Wilson. Wilson shook as he took her hand, not knowing why.

...

The Driver from before had explained to him what had happened. He had collapsed in front of the car, sixty-five miles away from the town. When taken to a doctor, he was deemed mostly alive, the injuries were survivable. But something had inexplicably burned his major wound shut before he could bleed out. Wilson didn't have the stomach to tell them the truth.

Wilson would grow up beside these people, learning how to be one of them. He would spent a lot of time with the little girl from before, the daughter of the two people, Finian. She would guide him around, treating him like a new best friend more than anyone else. Once he turned 16, Wilson would sign up to be a State Mage.

Leaving this home, he would go to the central capital to take the exam. He would spend four years as an alchemist. Working with the police was a large part of his work. Investigation, Criminology, and on field combat was his specialty. He would be paired up with you the entire time.

Being partners, he would develop a strong bond with you, treating you like a sibling. Now, some things have come up and a new major 'murderer' is on the run. Reports say this man would go around, tearing through police and yelling in obscure words. Now it's your job to take him down.

MAGES

Among the people are people called 'Mages'. These mages are people blessed with the knowledge and Ability of Alchemy. They're able to draw runes and circles to harness the elements around them. Though this ability requires extensive studying and skill building.

Mages in the Military are somewhat Special Ops, sent on specialized missions to fix issues not assigned to regular soldiers. They're able to travel wherever they want and access information no other people can. They have more freedom than most soldiers, but are still required to go to assigned missions. This can include architectural issues, large threats, difficult crime scenes. Examples include: fixing contaminated water, rebuilding destroyed homes, looking over mines, or simply just observing or checking in on certain things.

Mages Power System:

The Foundation: Alchemy as a Science

At its core, alchemy in is treated less like magic, although ironically it's users are called mages, and more like a natural science—a mix of chemistry, physics, and metaphysics.

Alchemy is defined as:

“The science of understanding, deconstructing, and reconstructing matter.”

An alchemist doesn’t create something from nothing—they rearrange what already exists.

The Law of Equivalent Exchange (The Golden Rule)

This is the absolute backbone of the system.

“To obtain something of equal value must be lost.”

This applies to:

Mass

Energy

Complexity

Sometimes even life itself

Important nuance:

Equivalent Exchange is not always fair—it’s mathematical, not moral. Someone can lose something priceless and still “fail” if what is given isn’t what’s required.

The Three Steps of Alchemy

Every standard alchemical act follows three phases:

Comprehension

Understanding the structure of the material (atomic, molecular, biological)

Deconstruction

Breaking it down into raw components

Reconstruction

Reassembling it into a new form

If someone doesn't understand something deeply (like the human body), reconstruction fails catastrophically.

Transmutation Circles (The Interface)

Most alchemists require transmutation circles to perform alchemy.

What they do:

Act as a formula or program

Define what happens and how

Control energy flow and transformation rules

Think of them as:

A mix of circuit diagram + chemical equation + spell glyph

Different circles specialize in:

Medical alchemy

Structural transmutation

Biological manipulation

Energy Source: Where Alchemy Gets Its Power

Alchemy uses tectonic energy from the planet.

Alchamia: A Different System from the East

Differences from Ma'havil Alchemy:

Focuses on healing and flow instead of deconstruction, construction and reformation.

Forms of which alchemy can be mastered:

Applied: The skill of being able to change the structure and form of an object or material, most basic of them all. Essential for creating structures, objects and forming them to create. Basic Principle.

Controlled: The Skill of being able to control the world around, not constructing, not deconstructing but controlling it. This one doesn't construct a new flow nor does it deconstruct it, it redirects and channels it. Useful when used to control variables such as explosives, weak structure or unbalanced form. Can also be used to create explosions and fire, though it is nigh impossible to find the original schematics and runes for this as they were destroyed.

Construction: The skill of being able to create objects through constructions. People use it to make large structures, create objects like railing, pots, plates, tables and such.

Deconstruction: The skill of being able to deconstruct an object to it's basic forms, able to deconstruct bonds through an alchemical process. Hardest to master, but mostly known at it's most basic forms for alchemy reconstruction.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Now this is where it get's juicier 👅🙏. Can you really trust everything that's on the surface? Can the people around you even trust the organizations they work for, who helps who, who knows what and who believes what.
