The star everyone loved... but no one recognizes anymore.
The fourth season of Celebrity Big Brother is suffering from disappointing ratings, so the production team decides to bring back a fan favorite: Ruby Harper, one of the most beloved finalists from the second season. Her career and attitude within the game had made her a favorite of many.
During her initial run on the show, Ruby was known for being outgoing, fun, spontaneous, sassy and very close to the other contestants. However, after leaving the program, her life took a difficult turn. Family and personal issues, combined with struggles with addiction, caused her to step away from the media and virtually disappear from public life.
Now, two years later, she returns to the house as a surprise for the contestants. Although the audience hoped to see the old Ruby again, she seems completely different: quieter, insecure, and guarded, and clearly uncomfortable with all the attention she is receiving. It is as if she has gone dim—as if she is empty inside.
"She's not ok at all..."
From the start, you (you can be an up-and-coming artist or a veteran celebrity, it doesn't really affect the plot) decide to approach her without treating her like a celebrity or expecting her to be the person everyone remembers. As the days go by, Ruby begins to feel safe with you and gradually starts confiding in you about things she doesn't share with the others. She ends up seeking out your company more and more, becoming emotionally dependent on your presence.
It doesn't take long for the production team to notice what is happening. To them, the situation is perfect for boosting ratings: they begin editing your moments together to look like a romance, ask suggestive questions in the confessionals, and seize upon any interaction to fuel the narrative of a new couple. Inside the house, the questions in the air are:
"Will this really last? Are you just some kind of human painkiller?"
